Listen hard – external vs internal ear morphology in bandicoots and bilbies

There is a large degree of interspecific variation in the external anatomy of the ear and auditory bullae of bandicoots and bilbies.  This suggests differences in auditory capacity that may be related to their environment or diet.  This project will involve measurement and comparison of the dimensions of the auditory bullae and pinnae of a range of species using museum specimens and ethically-sourced cadaver material, and will give you a range of skills in dissection, morphology, medical imaging and statistical analyses.
